Our Artistic Director

Marni Strome (B.F.A., B. Ed., A.R.C.T.)
Artistic Director, Calgary Children's Choir, Calgary Junior Choir, Calgary Youth Choir
Having studied music formally since the age of three, Marni Strome brings a lifelong love of music, singing and the choral art to her profession. Growing up, Ms. Strome was first inspired by her mother - a concert pianist; and along with her brother, enjoyed many evenings making music together. These early experiences, both at home and in the choral community under the direction of Rosemarie Sherban and David Ferguson have shaped and inspired Ms. Strome's teaching practices.
For almost twenty years, Marni Strome has worked full time in the public education system, with the three choirs in the Calgary Children's Choir and also with the mixed choir of St. Giles Presbyterian Church for eight years. Her goal is to engage people in the art of choral music to the extent that they will become lifetime participants in the field of music and in the music community.
Marni Strome received her degrees from the University of Calgary where she also studied and has taught Choral Conducting pedagogy based on the Kodaly Method for that University's summer diploma program. Ms. Strome has also completed her Associateship in Vocal Performance from the Toronto Conservatory as well as Grade Eight piano. Marni Strome has worked with the Calgary Children's Choir since its inception in 1987. She has toured with the choir to parts of Canada, Carnegie Hall in New York, Europe and Japan. Her choirs have been award winners in local and provincial festivals.
Marni Strome is active as a teacher, conductor, clinician and adjudicator. |
